Karman started making the Cheetah and Gipsy models on top of a VW Transporter base in 1983, starting out with the T3 and mounting them later, in 1990, on the chassis of the T4. WIKING devoted a model to this modern classic as early as the nineteen nineties – and is now following it up with a Cheetah design that radiates the spirit of the time in spades. Karmann had been making camper vans since 1977, after Wilhelm Karmann himself had discovered the prototype for his own first camper van in South Africa. T2 camper vans blazed the trail and were later accompanied by caravans for a while. In 2000, the Karmann-Mobil business unit was sold to Eura Mobil.
