Back in the day, WIKING delivered tens of thousands of samba buses as 1:40 scale miniatures to the Volkswagen plant in Wolfsburg. From there, the advertising model, which had been provided in numerous prototype factory colours, went out into the entire world, but especially to the United States. There, the 1:40 model was intended to accelerate the purchase decision of undecided “Bulli” customers or reward those customers for making their purchase. VW’s designers swore by the services WIKING had to offer in the fifties and sixties. No other master model maker had the same feel for the vehicle bodies featured in the model range offered by VW in Wolfsburg as did WIKING designer Alfred Kedzierski, who created the original model of all VW T1 versions in the different scales. The return of the 1:40 model is pure joy, because the samba bus with the rainbow design encompasses the attitude towards life held by an entire generation – namely that peace is all that matters!
