The VW Porsche 914 at WIKING has quite rightly experienced a pot-pourri of the flower-power world of colour– and now it’s also in bright green! The colour palette dedicated by the traditional model makers to the VW Porsche 914 makes the collection of model types really desirable. The history of a model type can hardly be more beautiful and colourful. On top of this are the huge black type-letters on the flanks. Back then, these were fully in fashion for owners of high speed cars. Following constructive collaboration between Volkswagen and Porsche, the prototype with an air-cooled Boxer engine was launched in autumn 1969. The four-cylinder vehicles with a 80 HP engine first came off the production line at Karmann in Osnabrück, Germany, while in Stuttgart Porsche itself manufactured the six-cylinder version with a mighty 110 HP. The otherness of this Porsche at times also brought unjustified scorn to the unusual two-seater with a mid-engine and removable targa top: It was known as the “coal box” because of its angular shape. Everyone knew that “Vopo”, short for “Volksporsche”, referred to the Porsche 914. Nevertheless, up to 1976 120,000 of the “VW Porsche” were built, and today it is classified as a modern classic of particular worth which has won itself a permanent place amongst the WIKING classics.
