Never has there been a “Pretzel” Beetle as colourful as the one WIKING is unveiling now! Yet, there is now an occasion worthy of the launch of this bright orange endurance runner from Wolfsburg: 100 years of the Sieper Group of companies – a century marked by moulding, toys and model making. Since Wiking-Modellbau joined the group of companies from Lüdenscheid in 1984, the brand has been adding new and multifaceted chapters to its illustrious history. To the delight of many collectors, the tradition of celebrating the big world of small miniatures is kept alive in the sister brand of siku, which also adds plenty of model-making inspiration. To celebrate the anniversary, the VW “Pretzel” Beetle is now joining the VW T1 box van in honouring this momentous occasion. After the second world war had come to an end, VW began with initial production in May of 1945 and ended up building 1,785 vehicles before the year was out. The following year, 10,020 vehicles rolled off the production lines already. The “Pretzel” Beetle remained in production until February of 1953. During the time it was produced - nearly eight years - a total of 402,921 “Pretzel” Beetles were made. 1953 witnessed an improvement to the vehicle’s all-around visibility at its rear when the central bar was removed and turned the “Pretzel” Beetle into the so-called Ovali.
