Its Ponton shape provided this limousine from Sweden with solid road handling, while giving it a sporty appearance at the same time. Joining an epoch-spanning line of vehicles made up by the PV 544, the 264 and the 840, the Volvo Amazon is now the fourth high-volume limousine produced in Göteborg that is added to the product range. The body has been treated to the most intricate engravings ranging from ornamental strips to handles on doors and boot all the way to tank supports and reflectors. The interior is furnished with a separately inserted steering wheel, dashboard with rib structure and an easily recognizable reproduction of the broadband speedometer. Front and back seats are also separate inserts, giving collectors the option of creating their own multi-coloured interior design later on. An impressive 667,323 units of this type rolled off the belt, and production of the prototype ran from 1956 to 1970. The Amazon series was a major contributor to the success of the Volvo brand as its safety features, such as the world’s first three-point safety belt in a series production car, early on earned it a reputation of being particularly safe.
