Germany’s federal rail service - DB - was looking to upgrade as well when Faun gave their tractor units an overhaul in the late sixties by launching a new generation. The old Culemeyers were in need of a tractor unit that would be able to pull wagon-carrying road trailers of future generations. The Faun 610/36 fit the bill perfectly. They offered an astoundingly different look compared to their predecessor - the rather languorous Kaelble vehicles. This was due to the bonnet with the Faun signet, which rushed far ahead of the axle. This must have taken some getting used to for the federal rail roader behind the wheel of the 610/36. On the flip side, the driver was able to keep an impressive 80 tonnes in motion thanks to the thundering Deutz engine. WIKING has now turned this modern classic of the 1960s into a stunning model that is in keeping with the authentic DB original. The first of its kind in WIKING's product range, this Faun closes a gap in the modern classics line-up of heavy load lorries. The traditional model makers focused their attention on the Faun 610/36 heavy load flatbed lorry, which will now be suitable for pairing with the old Culemeyer and its wagon load. Examples of the intricate detail include the driver's cab plus warning light and the extensive engravings that make the unusual driver's cab appear remarkably true to the original. The radiator grille is inserted as a separate piece, while the four headlamps are painted silver. It comes as no surprise that the F610 series was exclusively dominated by heavy tractor units capable of pulling up to 80 tonnes. The models years of 1967 and 1969 saw different variants with wheel bases ranging from 3.6 to 4.5 metres. The engine output varied between 250, 262, and 275 hp. It is thus no wonder that Germany’s federal rail service was among those who quickly came to appreciate this tractor unit of the late Economic Miracle era. Since the established Kaelble tractor units had grown long in the tooth, the DB was on the look out for a powerful successor. They found it in the F 610/36. Straying wildly from the compact and chunky look of the Kaelble bonnet truck, the new Faun generation was astonishing - largely because of its strikingly long - and unusual - bonnet.
