Experts were astounded when Magirus Deutz introduced a new generation of short-nosed trucks nearly 50 years ago. While the age of the short-nosed truck was seemingly coming to a close, the latest lorry generation from Ulm proved to be resilient all-rounders - especially in construction. Magirus had commissioned industrial designer Louis Lepoix to design the body shell of the bonnet. The lorry from Ulm had earned a stellar reputation - especially thanks to its performance at the construction site and not least because of the air-cooled Deutz engines, which were deemed to be without alternative at many construction companies. “The German bulls. With power and progress“- this was the slogan chosen by the lorry makers in 1970 when the vehicles were even involved in the construction of the Munich Olympic Stadium. Later, the company’s claim even graced football jerseys when Magirus became a sponsor of FC Bayern Munich. The “Baubullen” made by Magirus Deutz remained in production for a total of nearly 30 years. At the time, hundreds of Magirus dump trucks powered by Deutz engines were involved in the building of the Baikal-Amur Main Line. The air-cooled vehicles were able to stand up to the gruelling temperatures – a testament to the reliability of the “German Bulls” that could not have been greater. WIKING started making the last square hood generation with the legendary Meiller skip and tipper as early as the nineteen seventies. Today, they have become a fixture in the antique vehicle scene and enjoy tremendous popularity among enthusiasts. That is not surprising as they still look progressive - even though 50 years have past since their initial release.
