Even the 1:87 miniaturisation of the R4 exhibits a piece of French, or even Parisian, lifestyle. The Parisienne version made quite a splash with its fancy interior and red paint pattern, which was brought out to its full glory by the contrast it formed with the black body of the vehicle. This version was only one of many that kept arousing attention over the storied history of the R4. Renault presented the R4 “Parisienne” as the product of a joint effort with the “Elle” fashion magazine in December of 1963. It is distinguished by the plaid and netting pattern adorning the doors and the rear. At the time it was produced in Germany, the “R4” was considered one of the most agile and affordable foreign-made small vehicles - a typical family car. Far from being the classic it has become today, the French compact car with its handy tailgate - back then - simply served as a vehicle its driver would use for their everyday driving and transporting needs.
