It has been the dream car of many 18-year-old driver's licence newcomers of the baby boomer generation. The GTI version of the Golf I had what everyone wanted at the time: A compact car with the winning looks of the Golf paired with an engine that could rev up to a roar. What made the GTI stand out even more was the limited selection of available colours. While looking quite unique, the lemon yellow WIKING opted for this time was only one of the decidedly bright colours VW chose for the first Golf GTI generation. The traditional model makers have created a 1:87-scale reproduction of the exterior that is true to the original. The radiator grille bears the stylish silver GTI letters and is encircled by a red border. In addition, the black ornamental strips, window borders and door handles have been implemented just as well as the rear lettering “Golf GTI”. WIKING has turned the Golf GTI of the first generation into a gem of a model that is reminiscent of a Wolfsburg original that had no equal. After all, its 110 hp engine made the Golf swifter than any other preceding series-production compact car.
