It is elegant, refined, and expensive. When the Mercedes-Benz 540 K was presented at the Mondial de l’Automobile in Paris in October 1936 as successor to the 500 K (official range W 29), history would grant it only three years of production. With the same technical features as its predecessor, the 540 K had an eight-cylinder, 5401 cc, OHV in-line engine. In suction operation, the performance climbed to a remarkable 115 HP, and when operated using a compressor it actually rose to 180 HP. WIKING founder Friedrich Peltzer himself made the decision in favour of this historic classic, which very early on enhanced the series of the same name.
