Some type of nugget standing out from the asphalt with its striking ice blue - people in the sixties also labelled it a paperweight. What they referred to was the Goggomobil from Dingolfing. Today, we are justified to say that the vehicle represented a “minimalist” car of its time. As a matter of fact, the vehicle was a product of the post-war era. Those used to driving a powered two-wheeler had modest expectations for their switch to a passenger car. And, the Goggomobil was a reflection of this unpretentiousness when it was unveiled at the International Bicycle and Motorcycle Show (IFMA) in Cologne in 1954. Shortly thereafter, volume production began in early 1955, allowing the two-stroke vehicle with four seats to sharpen its profile next to such minimalist cars as the Messerschmitt bubble car and the models made by Lloyd. When it shed its “suicide doors” and its entry doors were mounted at the front in 1964, the Goggomobil finally left its insufficiencies behind. WIKING modelled their rendition after the last production series of the prototype.
