The ability to lend technical assistance was still in its infancy at fire brigades in the late nineteen fifties. Only large professional fire brigades had devised suitable specialists with a crane superstructure as early as the years preceding the war. The upgrades only began in the post-war years. Metz engineered a rescue crane vehicle (RKW), which also included a crane in addition to the extensive technical equipment housed in the superstructure. This rescue vehicle gained immense favour in the sixties - especially with professional fire brigades. At a time when technical assistance was increasingly left in the hands of professionals, the RKW scored the highest marks thanks to its wide range of application options. Standing ready at the rear was the powerful crane arm, capable of managing nearly any type of use case in a single full turn.
