The finishing makes it possible - the already legendary Büssing Trambus now beams with a bi-colour design. To make the vehicle truly shine, WIKING picked the colour duo of sky blue and light ivory, which was highly favoured by many municipal transport services at the time. Back in the day, WIKING fans were only familiar with the Büssing Trambus version that sported the fully glazed top section. The Büssing Trambus became an instant best-seller after its launch in 1951. The model owed its popularity, in no small part, to the decision made by WIKING head Friedrich Peltzer to treat the bus miniature to a feature that made it stand out in the selection of model vehicles: The transparent roof portion made for an attractive simulation of the glazing that was missing from other models available at the time - the beholder had a clear view of the interior. The real-life sibling of the Büssing Trambus had already been unveiled at the Hanover Fair in 1949. Particularly striking: It came with an underfloor diesel engine, which is just as visible on the WIKING model as the chassis on the lower part of the bus body. No wonder that this richness in detail already encouraged Büssing to use the WIKING model as a promotional present in the early 1950s.
