The deep orange WIKING has chosen for this Allgaier tractor turns this best-selling model into a typical representative of the agricultural machinery employed at the time as it exemplifies the boom of small farming businesses in post-war Germany. Operating with the “System Porsche”, the Allgaier tractor brought economic success to the tractor maker from Lake Constance for a long time, as the company benefited from the rapid growth in tractor construction at the beginning of the 1950s. The fact that this success made Porsche a major player in tractor building as well is owed in no small part to the company’s long-time chief engineer Karl Rabe, who wasted no time after the war to build a “tractor for the people”, as envisioned by Ferdinand Porsche, which could be produced in large numbers. It was not until 1956 that Allgaier Maschinenbau GmbH changed its company name to Porsche-Diesel-Motorenbau GmbH in Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance.
