When the model-makers presented the first four modest cardboard boxes containing N-gauge models at the Nuremberg Toy Fair in 1969, they literally caused a small sensation.'The decision to start and create this series did not come to us naturally. The pressing desire of many customers and WIKING enthusiasts were the decisive factor behind the decision to start production' visitors to the fair read on the back of the leaflet on new models. WIKING worked intensively on preparations for creating the first models which admittedly were to be miniature versions of their 1:87 models.The most important question they had to decide on was: Would they be better with or without roll axles? The decision was in favour of a conservative arrangement and those models were designed so that the wheels were integrated in the floor pan.
